Inspiration & Healing with Anassa Retreats

April 26, 2018 | 6 Comments

Megan and Siobhan (Shiv) are both good friends of mine: two unique, talented and dynamic women who are starting something that I believe the world needs. Retreats as a concept have been steadily rising in popularity, and it’s no wonder, with our urban lives and reliance on technology taking us further away from nature, and further away from being in touch with ourselves. In fact, tech allows us to be more connected to each other than ever before, but it doesn’t seem to be making us any happier.

I wanted to chat to Shiv (or Dr Dawson), a psychiatrist trained in South Africa and the UK, on what gave them the idea to start Anassa Retreats.

Siobhan & Megan

What inspired you both to start these retreats?

Anassa, which means “to inspire”, was born out of a dream to create sanctuary from our busy lives where we can restore our energy, discover the resources we have to live meaningful lives and kickstart healthy living.

In my Integrative Medical Practice, I recognised that many of my patients were exhausted – overwhelmed and disconnected from the priorities that truly gave them a sense of joy. We all live such demanding, over connected lives that it’s challenging to institute fundamental positive shifts in our lifestyles without taking the time to reflect and rest.

Even in my group of friends, almost every other person is taking an antidepressant, mood stabiliser or sleeping tablet. I realised that people have lost touch with their innate capacity to heal, and they don’t know that they can be empowered to make small changes which can fundamentally improve their own resilience, productivity, energy levels and experience of fulfillment.

It brings me great satisfaction when people start living intentional lives, making conscious decisions that allow them to step into their power.

Megan left her hectic corporate job and suffered the effects of burn out. She applied her precision and laser focus to learn how to heal the body through food, holistic therapies and meditative practices. She shares these transformative daily practices in an accessible and humorous way.

What are you hoping participants will gain from attending your retreat?

This retreat is for anyone who imagines cocooning themselves in a luxurious spa-like environment, close to nature.

We take you on a  journey to release habits that suck your life force and reawaken those aspects of self which creates a sense of expansion and inspiration.

We stimulate the body to heal with nourishing foods and gentle detox facilities like infrared sauna. You will learn how to heal your gut and make choices which will treat adrenal burn out symptoms, mood disorders and impact longevity.

Immersive therapies have been hand picked to ensure maximum benefit and to help you release limiting beliefs and rebalance. When we’re connected to the most potent version of ourselves, we are creative, in flow and playful. Our vision is to use our skills to serve others and address the problems many people are currently facing in their stressful lives.

We combine cutting-edge scientific research to train you to master the techniques to thrive in this chaotic, ever changing world we live in. We reveal how to change brain wave states and reset the nervous system enhancing your resilience, productivity, creativity and intuitive capacities.

These teachings and therapies provided in this idyllic location would not normally be affordable or accessible in this way and our hope is that we can provide people with this launching pad to lead their best lives.

Sounds great but a little pricey for the average person I think.

Yes – agree it is out of most people’s budgets (although other retreats are similarly priced to this one). Also, if you think how much an hour of therapy with a qualified psychiatrist typically costs, and then consider that this is three full days with one.

Any chance you can get them to apply the discount to the October one?

    • Reply Belinda Mountain June 5, 2018 at 7:38 pm

Hi Daniela – I asked and they said that although the discount code does not currently apply for the October retreat, if you are okay with me supplying your email address to them, then they will be in touch if that changes. Let me know if you are ok with that and I will pass your details on to them…
