Goodbye to Mommy Blogging

January 31, 2019 | 11 Comments

Tomorrow’s February. How? Yes, I know, minutes turn into hours, which turn into days, which become years and then decades and sooner than you know it, it is your 40th birthday year and you have two kind-of-big kids. Weird.

I’ve been quiet around here and it’s been for a reason. Things they are a’ changing. I’m going to stop being a parenting blogger, as of today really. I’m just kind of…done with Making Mountains.

Can you believe it’s been almost six years since I first discovered WordPress, picked a template, just sat down and BEGAN? I can’t. Six years of pouring my heart and soul into this keyboard and engaging with wonderful people from all across the world. Some of you I’ve never met, but have come to feel like friends. And some of you I have met in real life, and it’s been a privilege.

This blog has honed my writing skills, given me such unusual and exciting opportunities, and been my way of working through a whole ton of emotions, from grief to confusion, frustration to joy, all the feelings that are possible to feel really.

I’ve documented my children’s lives here and this will remain a memento for them. But they are bigger now, and they deserve privacy. They’re both at big school this year for heaven’s sake! And it’s been so long since I wrote about parenting as such anyway. My blog post topics these days seem to vary widely, although they do of course mention my family, because that is the biggest and brightest part of my life.

But this is not the end (don’t weep guys). I still need a platform to write from, even though I may be blogging less often. I’m in the process of creating that space and I’ll then move this content over there, and hopefully take you all along with me. So watch this space for updates, as it rolls out over the next few months (hint: it will probably still have the word Mountain in it, because how could it not;).

I’m hoping to continue working with a few trusted brands on my new blog and through my social media channels (follow me on Instagram or Facebook). Brands like Pesso and UCOOK, who are my lifesaver at the moment for mid-week meals (have you guys used my 30% discount code yet? You really should: #makingmountains ).

So what will the new blog cover? Kind of writerly stuff I suppose (I have some big plans;). As well as good food, because I love to eat. And style, because I like things that look nice (like my newly yellow outdoor chair – refreshed with local chalk paint Granny B’s…doesn’t it make you smile?).

I’m still figuring it out, I just know that I need to start afresh – because this is the next phase of my creative life.

Thanks for being so amazing. Thanks for the advice, the tears, the encouragement and the warmth. My world has been richer because of all of you in it.

Okay, this is now sounding like an Oscar’s speech so I better totter off.

You’ll hear from me soon on blog 2.0 but until then, keep up to date with what I’m thinking and doing on Instagram (it’s still my favourite).

xxx

Belinda

I’ve been a big fan of your blog over the years, particularly how honest and real it has always been – and so beautifully written. I’m glad there’s a new chapter planned – good luck with the crafting and planning and reavealing of it.
