AfroDaddy & Celebrating Fathers

March 20, 2018 | 1 Comment

I first met Terence and Julie at a blogger event and immediately knew they were awesome! (because you could feel the awesome vibes radiating;). Anyway, parenting blogger Terence (aka AfroDaddy) has some very interesting insights from a Dad’s perspective, which I think are crucial to share. Because if we are to create a society where each parent contributes equally and feels equally valued, well then – we have a lot of work to do. Here’s more from him.

  1. Who is Terence? Give us a quick rundown.

I’m the dad to two boys, Liam (aka “The Kid”) and Eli (aka “Boy2.0”). They are as exciting, wonderful, lovely, hectic and crazy as brothers born 18 months apart can be.

Liam, my eldest, is adopted and his younger brother Eli isn’t. You’ll have to watch my videos and read the blog to find out how that happened. I’m joined on the journey of parenting by the insanely smart, charming and beautiful Julie. She’s my wife. Lucky lady. Continue Reading…

MotheringMe (why mothers need to put themselves first)

March 14, 2018 | 22 Comments

My path crossed with Taryn’s recently and it could not have come at a better time, as I’m on a crusade to change how mothers think about themselves and their place in the world (both with my friends and through this blog). I cried a bit reading Taryn’s words below as I think we can ALL identify with this, and I can’t think of a more important blog post I’ve published recently than this one, right here. Have a read and let me know your thoughts.

  1. Tell us about yourself.

I’m the mom of three young boys aged, 9, 7 and 1. Together with my hubby and 2 dogs (also boys!), we live in Somerset West. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Homoeopathy in 2002.

Keen to explore the world I moved to the UK where I started my own practice, specialising in women’s well-being, in 2004. During my time in the UK I also lectured for several colleges and facilitated women’s workshops. In 2014 I returned to South Africa and now work from both my private practice and at the Healing Hub at Lourensford Wine Estate, with a focus on women’s well-being and a special interest in supporting moms.

I want women to feel heard, seen and valued for all that they contribute day in and day out. We are a most precious resource and it is time to tap into that!

Idyllic Elgin River Lodge

March 12, 2018 | No Comments

I’ll skip starting this post with “I’m so sorry I’ve been quiet but work has been off-the-charts busy and moving house kind of knocks you for a six”. Instead I’ll just say hello and that I need to remind myself sometimes that blog posts don’t have to be these long well thought-out opinion pieces, they can also be quick diary-like entries.

So with this in mind, this weekend we want to Elgin River Lodge with a whole bunch of friends and it was simply golden. Canoeing on the river, rope swinging into pools, treasure hunts and musical statues on the lawn. Pizza under the trees, trail running up steep hills, coffee around the fireplace, treehouses to explore, long chats with drinks in hand – this is a truly magical place. Continue Reading…
